Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
However this minor flaw comes from Clendinen's desire to portray every nuance of his characters - and by the end of the book, you feel you know these people.
I was able to relate to this book because my own father moved into Canterbury after Clendinen's mother passed away. Moran looks like the quintessential nerd: bad haircut, huge eyeglasses, boyish look despite being a scholar. Finally, the background on Charles Saatchi, while interesting, was also the winner for the revelation which left the worst taste in my mouth: that his advertising firm, `Saatchi and Saatchi helped to define Margaret Thatcher's political image.' (36)
Ultimately, this book, while having moments of interest, was a messy, heady, opportunistic rush, much like the scene itself. I'm sorry I lost faith in you, but you came through, babe. In a lot of ways Dmitri and Honor felt like Raphael and Elena 2.0. No one has this perspective .or credibility. I'm 67 and I have my coloring books from 1950. Sh
