Considere comme un des principaux artistes de la ligne claire, Ted Benoit n'en est pas a son coup d'essai. Ne en 1947, ce talentueux dessinateur commence d'abord sa carriere dans le cinema a l'Institut des hautes etudes cinematographiques. Assistant realisateur pour la television jusqu'en 1971, c'est cette annee-la qu'il se lance dans le 9eme art en rejoignant tout d'abord les magazines underground Actuel, puis Geranonymo, qui publient ses premieres bandes dessinees. Il travaille ensuite pour L'Echo des Savanes, Metal Hurlant et (A SUIVRE) a partir de 1975. C'est avec le titre "Hopital" (publie aux Humanoides Associes) que sa premiere periode en tant qu'auteur BD atteint son point fort. Prix du scenario au festival d'Angouleme 1979, un album sombre a la ligne expressionniste, differente de celle qu'on lui connait aujourd'hui. Blake and Mortimer head to the United States to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the discovery of a 177-year-old body, which appears to have died very recently. The body is that of a Scottish major, Mortimer’s forebear, who was leading a British military expedition to the US in 1777, where he was swallowed up by a strange multi-coloured light-beam shining down from the sky. Blake and Mortimer fight men in black armed with green-laser guns and soldiers emerging from the past in order to save the Earth from complete obliteration.
It is too bad the focus seemed to fall on the weaker NHS like systems and not the stronger - for this reason it will too quickly be written off as biased by many..
