He also starts his practice of lying on top of his dog house, although his first attempts are not all that successful. But they add up. It is perhaps predictable that they would suffer from guilt following the murder of a man who, while timid and boring, was ultimately good, but Zola makes the focus of the novel something much greater than mere regret. The back cover blurb of this book tells a lie: "This acclaimed biography is the only one devoted to Oliver Heaviside." Nahin himself mentions two others, by Bolotovsky and by Searle, and two more unpublished ones, by Gossick, and most significantly, by Henry J. Nahin's writing style is good, with quite a few gossipy details; the book is nicely illustrated, and has been well proof-read (except that André-Marie Ampère is always shorn of all accents). The first gives a fairly detailed overview of the grammar and historical context of Old English, whilst the second contains prose and verse texts, accompanied by copious notes, f
